Three Ways to Jump
BeginnerThe dino jumps when you press Space, the Up Arrow, or click the screen with a mouse. All three are identical in function. Space is the preferred choice for most players because it's easy to hold without straining and holding produces a higher jump than a tap. On keyboard, try resting your thumb lightly on Space between obstacles so your response time is zero.
Down Arrow is Duck, Nothing Else
BeginnerThe Down Arrow is the only key that makes the dino duck. There is no alternative. Hold it down to stay crouched — releasing it immediately returns you to full standing height. A common mistake is pressing Down too briefly and popping back up before a low obstacle has cleared. Hold it until the threat is fully past.
Space / Click to Start and Restart
BeginnerBefore the game starts, pressing Space or clicking begins your run. After a collision, the same input instantly restarts — no extra menus. This makes Chrome Dino one of the fastest-to-restart games ever made. Use it: instead of sulking over a bad run, restart within a second and use the momentum of frustration productively.
Advanced Control Techniques
Combine Jump and Down for Fast-Fall
IntermediateAfter initiating a jump with Space or Up Arrow, press Down Arrow while airborne to trigger Chromium's speed-drop behavior. This shortens airtime and can help before the next obstacle.
Release Timing Controls Jump Length
IntermediateThe dino must first reach its configured minimum jump height. Releasing the jump key after that point applies the drop velocity sooner; holding it longer allows the normal jump arc to continue.
Mobile Touch Controls
BeginnerCurrent Chromium maps touch start to jump and touch end to ending the jump. It does not define the desktop duck action as a swipe. The Jumping Dino app is designed around one-tap mobile controls for its own runner modes.
Hardware and Setup Optimization
Use a Reliable Keyboard
AdvancedChoose whichever keyboard lets you press and release Space or the arrow keys consistently. Chromium's source does not support a claim that one switch type gives a measurable scoring advantage.
Keep a Comfortable Hand Position
BeginnerRest your hand where Space and Down Arrow are easy to reach without strain. Consistent posture is more useful than changing hardware for a browser mini-game.
Keep the Game in the Foreground
AdvancedChrome listens for visibility and focus changes and pauses when the page is no longer active. Keep the game tab visible and avoid overlays or notifications during a serious run.
