Chrome Dino Speed Milestones Explained — Tips & Guide (2026)
What to Expect at Every Stage of a Chrome Dino Run
Chrome Dino accelerates continuously from a normal-mode speed constant of 6 to a cap of 13. The source defines obstacle speed gates and visual triggers, not named difficulty levels. This guide separates those code-backed landmarks from subjective player milestones.

Early Game: 0–450 Points
Starting Configuration
BeginnerNormal mode begins at game speed 6. Small and large cacti are both eligible from speed 0, although multi-cactus sizing depends on each obstacle's `multipleSpeed` setting.
Continuous Acceleration
BeginnerSpeed increases by 0.001 on each active update until it reaches 13. This is continuous acceleration, not a jump at each 100-point score flash.
Pterodactyl Eligibility (~450 Score)
IntermediatePterodactyls require speed 8.5. Under nominal 60 FPS desktop timing, the normal-mode constants reach that speed around 450 score. The exact first bird is random because eligibility does not guarantee immediate selection.
Mid Game: 450–700 Points
Obstacle Gaps Scale With Speed
IntermediateChromium calculates each random gap from obstacle width, current speed, and the configured gap coefficient. Faster play therefore changes spacing without introducing a separate score-based combination phase.
Color Inversion at 700
IntermediateAt a positive 700-point multiple, current Chromium can trigger its color inversion. The timer lasts 12 seconds. Speed is still well below the normal cap at 700, so this is a visual milestone rather than the end of acceleration.
Continued Acceleration: 700+ Points
Normal Speed Cap (~1,660 Score)
AdvancedUsing the normal-mode constants with nominal 60 FPS timing, speed 13 is reached around 1,660 score. After the cap, speed no longer increases, but random obstacle selection and spacing still vary.
Endurance After the Cap
AdvancedOnce speed is capped, improvement is about consistent classification and input timing rather than adapting to further acceleration.
Use The Jumping Dino for Structured Levels
IntermediateThe Jumping Dino's 15 campaign levels provide explicit stage progression, while Infinite mode offers a separate endless runner loop. They are different implementations, so performance in one should not be treated as a measured equivalent of the other.
